I’m in a tropical state of mind in Florida. The pristine beaches, the light wind, and the trees all coincide in this beautiful state of bliss. The air is fresh and the sun shines bright. I find myself relaxed and carefree. A casual lifestyle beckons all who steps into its majesty. A journey into Gilchrist County Florida will lead you to the beautiful springs that await your arrival.
Blue Springs Park in High Springs Florida is an oasis. Privately owned, it is a second magnitude spring that flows into the Santa Fe River. It is a perfect place for a day trip or a weekend camping spot to explore the other smaller nearby springs.
Blue Springs has a large wooden diving dock and the depth of the water where the spring flows from plunges down to 24 feet. You can relax in the surrounding shallow waters, snorkel, float, or rent a canoe or kayak. The crystal blue water is a refreshing 72 degrees year round. You will feel the healing benefits both mentally and physically as it is a stress reliever and immune stimulant.
The main spring appeals to many visitors so it can be crowded at times but it is good for families and people looking for a fun atmosphere. There you will find children splashing and playing while the older kids and adults are jumping in head first off the diving board into the deep blue waters.
You can stroll down the quarter mile wooden boardwalk that is elevated above the water and get a glimpse of the Santa Fe River or you can wade through the sandy bottomed water and take time to soak in the scenery that surrounds.
From there you can come across an inviting path just down the way from the main spring, ducking under fallen trees and swimming alongside the many fish and other wildlife that call this place home to find yourself immersed in natures beauty as you end up at Naked Springs, a beautiful smaller spring with a floating dock. The pristine shades of blue that these springs produce are straight out of a fairytale.
It is magical to gaze into the deep blue waters and follow the waters current as it changes into the most tropical teal blues you can imagine. The trees are alive as they sway with the rhythm of the light Florida breeze. The Spanish moss swooping through the groves of trees give off a mystical vibe that welcomes you to go deeper within yourself and become one with nature.
Inhale the fresh air, relax the mind, and rejuvenate the soul.
