Canggu is a hip little beach village in the southern part of Bali. The vibe is laid back and chill. It is a great place to unwind and relax and catch some awesome sunsets. It’s a small village with a lot of character. There is so much art and color in this village which makes it so special and unique. It’s a casual place where you don’t even need shoes, just a swimsuit and a cold drink and you are set.
Canggu is the perfect little seaside village, although not as spiritual or cultural as Ubud is, it’s also not as busy and touristy as its neighboring towns of Seminyak or Kuta. You can still find that small town vibe of locals immersed in everyday life but also have a fun time with lots of places to party down and get a bit of that nightlife atmosphere.
The main mode of transportation here is scooters which you can rent for dollars a day. There are just a few main roads that run parallel to the beach with not a lot of side roads so it’s easiest to get around from place to place via the beach if you’re going by foot.
The ocean is ridiculously awesome here, the waves are incredible which makes it the perfect spot for surfing. These waves can get really big so it’s not for the faint of heart, the water here is constantly turning and churning some seriously big kahunas. The beaches are littered with long-haired tanned surfer boys and tall blonde Aussie girls.
There are a lot of little surf hostels to stay in that are very affordable and small boutique hotels. You can rent surf boards on the beach and even get a quick lesson to learn how to ride the waves.
The best part of Canggu to me was all of the colorful graffiti and art. There are amazing murals everywhere you look here. From the sides of buildings to the beaches the scenery is just eye candy everywhere.
There are so many great bars and restaurants here, some are right on the beach with breathtaking views and parties all day long. It’s extremely easy to find good eats here if you are vegan which is another reason why I had to check out this village. Lot’s of vegan restaurants and options pretty much everywhere. There’s also a lot of little road side stands to stock up on cold Bintangs and bananas!
One of the most popular hangout spots in Canggu is Old Mans Bar which is a good place to grab a cold Bintang Beer and gelato. The artwork here is all done in shades of blue which gives it a surf side chill vibe.
Another awesome place to check out is The Lawn which sits right on the beach and has amazing sunset views, live music, and a chill atmosphere. They lay out pillows on the lawn to sit on and there is also seating inside and on the balcony. You can even take a dip in the pool right on the beach.
No trip to Canggu would be complete without a stop by the uber popular Instagramable Nalu Bowls, they serve up some mighty fine smoothie bowls that will knock your socks off.
