Vision boards are a fun creative way to express yourself and help attract the things in life you desire. I have done vision boards for as long as I can remember, I always have at least one in my home that reflects my current desires dreams and goals. It’s a piece of art for me, by me.
I am a manifesting maniac, I love when I am able to visualize something and then see it come true. These vision boards have helped me create the life I desire and continue to do so. I have witnessed their power first hand in so many ways that it still blows my mind!
I’m a big believer in the law of attraction. It is a universal law that is based on the idea that your thoughts create your reality, that everything has energy and that like energy attracts like energy. It’s a very simple law and it can help improve your life in many ways. Positive thoughts breed positive outcomes. If you believe it you can achieve it!
Vision boards are a collage that is representative of what it is you want out of life, not just the material stuff but also how you want to feel emotionally, spiritually, and physically. When you think about your life is it everything you want it to be? What if it could be? What would your life look like if you could make it be everything you wanted it to be? What if you could make a sort of blueprint for your life to unfold the way you imagine it would? The possibilities are endless and if you’ve never thought about creating the life you desire then there’s no better time than now to do so in a crafty sort of way!
Studies have shown that people who use vision boards are twice as confident that they will reach those goals than people who don’t. Many businesses create vision boards as part of their plan on their path to success.
Visualization is a technique you can use to imagine that life you dream about. And creating a vision board helps brings those dreams to reality. There are no rules to creating your vision board, you can do it however you like. You will just need a few supplies to get started:
- paper or poster board
- magazines/photos/mementos
- glue
- scissors
You can make one or several vision boards, they can be specific to one goal or desire or they can be all-encompassing. For example if you are wanting to find the perfect new job then you can create a board with just images and words that relate to that perfect dream job to help you focus on just that area if you’d like. Maybe you’re wanting to go on an exotic trip so you could put pictures of your desired destination or an airplane.
I personally like to create one large poster sized vision board that encompasses every area of my life and I update mine 2-3 times a year, removing any images that no longer apply or do not resonate with me and I’ll add new images. I like to go through my favorite magazines and I tear out any pictures or words that spark joy when I see them and I collect them in an envelope and then when it’s time for me to update my board I already have a large selection of images for it.
I keep my vision board directly above my vanity so each morning I see it and I can take some time to look at it and picture myself already having manifested my dreams. It is also therapeutic to me when I am able to have a daily visual reminder of my goals.
Get creative and place your images however you want, you can just use pictures or you can add words and phrases. If there’s something you want but you don’t have a picture for it then draw one! The universe doesn’t care if you are an artist or not, as long as you believe then it’s good enough. You can also add photographs or anything that is significant to you. Find what inspires you and go from there. Maybe it’s a certain place, or a famous person you look up to, or an affirmation.
Of course it’s not just enough to cut out and glue some pictures on paper and be done with it. A vision board is just a tool to help you achieve your goals. There still has to be action. You can’t expect to just have things happen spontaneously without any effort. The vision board is a powerful tool to help you get there but it’s your mind that does the real work.
I’d recommend to make it a special occasion when you actually sit down to construct your vision board initially. Set the mood by playing your favorite music, lighting some incense, and setting intentions as you place your images on the paper and imagine yourself already accomplishing what it is you desire. This allows you to really tune into what it is you are wanting and gets you dialed in.
A vision board party where you invite your friends over telling everyone to bring a stack of magazines and grab a couple of bottles of wine is always a great idea. This allows you to each create and share your vision boards amongst a supportive group of peers and you can help inspire and support each other in a positive way.
Once you are done with constructing your vision board you will want to actually utilize it. That means placing it somewhere that is visible and that you will see everyday. Take time to really look and focus on the images on your board, see yourself already having, doing, or being that way. You also have to believe that you can achieve those goals, if you have doubt or fears about what you are desiring then you are not in alignment with your dreams and this will not allow them to come to fruition. You cannot desire something but not believe that it can happen because that is working against the law of attraction and it will not happen. A positive mindset is key to attaining your goals and dreams.
Some people like to keep their boards very simple with just a few images to really focus on and some people (like myself) choose many images to fill up their board with. Some people also believe that once a particular image has manifested that you should remove it however I like to keep it as a reminder and express my gratitude for it. Remember there are no rules other than the rules of the law of attraction!
